Ferry Flood

I dreamt.

There was a flood and people in my area were being evacuated to a ferry. I was wearing a long, sleeveless, orange dress with a slit on the side of one of the legs. There was a ginger older woman in her 50s with me wearing a long, flowy mint-green dress. Apparently she was my friend.

We waited on the ferry dock with a bunch of other passengers. The water was rising and we could see houses in the water underneath us. A round, disk-like white and green ferry came to the dock and my friend and I boarded.

Inside the ferry all the seats were in a circular formation and they were facing the entrance of the ferry. The back row of seats were perfectly empty but for some reason, my friend and I decided to sit in the crowded row in front of it. There was a blue dog pee mat covering a couple of seats. My friend and I moved the mat to another row and sat. The women sitting around us told that *name redacted* was sitting there and she’ll get mad at us for moving her mat. My friend and I ignored the women. I opened my backpack and started reading A Dance With Dragons.

*Name redacted* then came and freaked out because her mat was moved. The women around us told her to be quiet and sit down. My friend and three other women then started talking shit about *name redacted.*

They said, “*Name redacted* really smells like shit. I think there’s a poop stain on her shorts.”

*Name redacted* said, “I can hear you guys!”

The women then said, “Isn’t she a sore loser?”

*Name redacted* said, “Stop!”

Instead of intervening, I decided to move away because I did not want any part in this. I moved the back row in the corner, spread out, and started reading my book again. It was pretty nice being in the back. I regretted not sitting here in the first place.

After some time, I heard a honking coming from outside. I went outside to the deck and looked around to see where the noise was coming from. We were in a parking lot full of mostly submerged cars. I saw that there was a man trapped inside his car. Everyone around me wondered what they should do. I wordlessly jumped into the water and swam towards the man. His seatbelt was stuck and couldn’t unbuckle. I tried to push the seatbelt button several times but it wouldn't work. Then, I tried to pull the seatbelt loose so he could escape. The seatbelt wouldn’t budge. I tried pushing the seatbelt button again and it finally unbuckled. I helped bring the man to the ferry.

Everyone on the ferry was congratulating me for my bravery but I ignored them and said “I did what no one else was willing to do.”

They became silent. I then went to the bathroom. The bathroom smelled nasty because no one could flush the toilet due to the ferry trying to conserve power. I left immediately.
